Abstract

This article aims to introduce the concept of differentiated learning model in learning reading skills according to the independent curriculum. The differentiated learning model is an educational approach or approach that adapts learning content, processes, and products based on students' readiness, interests, and learning profiles. In the context of the independent curriculum, this model is in line with the principles of student-centered learning and attention to student diversity. The differentiated learning model in reading skills according to the independent curriculum aims to improve each student's potential by paying attention to their uniqueness. This approach supports the development of comprehensive reading skills that are adapted to the needs of individual students. The main characteristics of the differentiated learning model are flexibility in materials and methods; continuous assessment; dynamic student grouping; and relevant and meaningful learning. The application of this educational model in reading skills includes: First: initial assessment to identify the level of reading ability of students; Second: grouping to form groups based on abilities, interests, or learning styles; Third: adapting materials to present texts with different levels of difficulty; and Fourth: diversified methods using different strategies such as independent reading, paired reading, or guided reading. The relevance of this learning model to the Merdeka Curriculum is that it supports the profile of Pancasila students, especially the aspects of independence and mutual cooperation; Facilitating project-based and inquiry-based learning; developing higher order thinking skills (HOT) and encouraging lifelong learning.
